Change the Wi-Fi password step by step
- Connect to your router by Wi-Fi or Ethernet.
- Open the router admin page in a browser.
- Sign in with the router administrator credentials.
- Open Wi-Fi, Wireless, WLAN or a similarly named section.
- Find the current Wi-Fi password or security key.
- Enter the new password and save or apply the changes.
- Reconnect your phones, computers, TVs and other devices using the new password.

Choose a good Wi-Fi password
Use a long password that is difficult to guess and different from your router administrator password. Avoid names, addresses, phone numbers and very common words.
Important: the Wi-Fi password and the router administrator password can be different. Changing one does not necessarily change the other.
Reconnect your devices after the change
When you save the new Wi-Fi password, wireless devices may disconnect immediately. Open Wi-Fi settings on each device, select your network again and enter the new password.
If the router has separate 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks, check whether both bands use the same password or need to be changed separately.
If you cannot find the Wi-Fi password setting
Router menus vary by manufacturer and ISP. Look for sections named Wi-Fi, Wireless, WLAN, Security or SSID. If you still cannot find it, check the router or ISP documentation before resetting anything.
